Kranti is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that empowers girls from Mumbai’s red-light areas to become agents of social change. Kranti believes that girls from red-light areas have an added value as change agents, not despite our background, but because of it. If we have access to the same education, training, and opportunities as people from privileged backgrounds, we will become exceptional leaders – more innovative, compassionate, and resilient due to our life experiences.
Ashiyana means ‘a safe and beautiful home’, that sprouted from a simple idea to paint the bare walls of Umerkhadi Children’s Home in 2012, to make the space feel like a ‘home’ for children. Since September 2013, Ashiyana has been investing our energies and efforts towards working as catalysts that connect resources to the needs of the existing system, to transform the lives of the children in Umerkhadi Observation and Children’s Home and David Sassoon Industrial Home.
It all started way back in 2012 with volunteers who wanted to bring colour to the barren walls of the Children’s Home. Each Sunday children and volunteers came together to paint a large mural on the walls of the Home. The constant presence and meaningful interactions led them to respond to other needs in the home. Soon they started a library, playing games, screening films and even began address-tracing and looking for children’s families. The most important thing they did was to simply spend time with the children, and as they spent time, they identified more and more opportunities for change.
Angel Xpress Foundation (AXF) was started in 2012 as a platform for concerned citizens willing to tutor and mentor first-generation learners from slums in their neighbourhood. Today, it is a 12 A and 80 G accredited Section 6 NGO where 1000+ school goers from slums get up to 300 hours of lessons in English, Math and value lessons. Led by over 300 volunteers at free learning centres in 10 locationsacross the city, we combine education with life lessons that help children grow into well-rounded people.
Mumbai is marked by the co-existence of high rises and slums. It is also home to a large populace of the educated affluent with a social conscience. Putting these two together, we knew we had the perfect opportunity for a citizen-inspired movement for social good.
Children from financially-challenged backgrounds often lack the attention and care given to children in educated homes. Through AXF, we wanted to connect them to loving and concerned adults who could teach them not only to learn better but also to be good human beings. For an hour every day, 300 passionate individuals including stay-at-home mums, grandmums, freelancers and professionals, assisted by children from affluent schools and colleges, reach out to 14 batches of school-going children from slums across the city. We are 'Bodhisattva' an NGO that aims to reduce animal suffering and bridge the gap between Animals and Humans. We are committed to helping and creating a better environment for helpless and voiceless animals through our projects.
We wish to support medical aid and treatments for poor people living below poverty line. To provide necessities to the homeless and help them stand on their feet, make a living. To spread awareness, educate people towards social causes and get then involved.
To give rise to a community service and community support attitude in our youth.
Bodhisattva NGO founder and managing trustee, Miss Mojdeh Farashahi, has volunteered extensively at various human and animal welfare NGOs, prior to forming her own NGO to live a life of service to others and be a catalyst for social change.
